This article will cover last week and this week (before and after the snow). The early part of last week was spent pruning the suckers on the trees between 11 and 18 and removing some trees that were in the way of the tee shot from 18. We made sure that this was totally cleaned up before the snow arrived on Friday.
We spent part of Thursday and all of Friday preparing for the snow. With space being limited at the Maintenance Facility for large amounts of snow, we re-organized a lot of the equipment we store outside so we could more efficiently plow our lot. Our snowblowers were checked and put up by the clubhouse and the plows were attached to our skid steer and dump truck. Salt was staged by the clubhouse for after we finished plowing.
Myself and the staff couldn't make it in on Monday morning, but Gary and I got a head start Monday evening. Gary focused on the Maintenance Facility lot so the staff would have a place to park on Tuesday and I began work on the main drive at the clubhouse. It took almost 4 hours to go from the entrance up to (but not including) the main circle!
With the entire staff on hand Tuesday, We tackled the bulk of the snow in the lots. Because the club is closed to members on Wednesday but employees will be coming in, we cleared the employee lot first then moved over to the main parking lot. It took a bit of creativity to find the best way to clear this much snow. Our normal procedure of dropping the plow to the ground and pushing all the snow across the lot just didn't work, so we had to take it off in layers which was definitely a time consuming process. Other staff members used the snowblowers to do the circle and they worked on shoveling sidewalks.
The club will be operational on Wednesday but we will have plenty of detail cleanup work to do before we can say we're finished with the snow.
Finally, I wanted to mention that I'm honored to be receiving an award for Best Blog that will be presented by Golf Course Industry Magazine at the Golf Industry Show in San Diego this year. I take a lot of pride in my communications regarding our behind the scenes maintenance and am thrilled to be recognized for those efforts. A big thanks to all of the member and non-member readers that make my time spent (almost) every Friday putting this together well worth it. In 2015, there were 3,921 views of the blog. I hope to reach 5,000 this year!
