Superintendent Update- Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Goodbye 2016!
My final post for 2016

Well here we are, my final post for 2016.  I like to remain positive on most things but at this point, I'm glad that this year is over and I'm excited to have a new Harrells desktop calendar to signify the start of a new year.  I have had many difficult challenges this year and at times it seemed like nothing could go smoothly, both on the golf course and outside of work, but when it comes down to it, a strong staff and a great membership supporting our efforts kept me going.

Looking forward to next year, we will have some changes on my staff.  As you know, I have two Co-Assistants, Chris Swenson and Nick Donner.  Chris has been with us for two years and is going to be moving on to pursue his career in sales with Floratine Foliar and Soil Fertilizers.  Chris has been an invaluable asset, specifically on our greens, with his knowledge of water management, cultural practices, and foliar feeding.  Our unique aerification process performed in August when we apply the sand first, utilize two sizes of solid tines, blow the sand in, and leaving a fantastic surface with zero rutting or abrasion on the greens is 100% Chris' idea that he created with at Inverness.  Its a process I call the Swenson Method and I look forward to continue using it throughout my career.  Chris will be missed, but moving forward, we are currently searching for a strong candidate to work with Nick next year.

As for our membership, as always, I can't thank you enough for your support of our efforts on the course.  Its great working for a group of people that care about the staff and take such an interest in the hard work our team puts in to provide the conditions you enjoy  This year, we welcomed 49 new members to the club.  This is a testament to the fact that people want to be here around such a fun group of members.  As our membership grows, so do our budgets, which directly translates into better conditions, so if you have anyone in mind that would enjoy being a Hillendale member, please bring them to the club.

From me and my staff to your families, we wish you a Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years.

All the best,
Brad
